Plateletapheresis Blood Donation ProgramHundreds of Hawaii’s patients rely on platelet transfusions to help them recover from cancer, surgical procedures and other illnesses. Platelets are special cells in your blood that heal your body’s wounds and clot blood. This program enables donors to give this specific blood component. Reference LaboratoryProvides 24-hour consultation services to the hospitals in the State of Hawaii for sample work for patients with antibodies. The laboratory also provides antigen negative units and coordinates with the national blood registry to provide rare antigen-negative units. Hawaii Cord Blood BankCord blood and the stem cells they contain are an emerging medical technology and it is collected from the detached umbilical cords of newborns. Blood Bank of Hawaii supports the Hawaii Cord Blood Bank by coordinating the shipments of the cord blood samples and units to Puget Sound Blood Center in Seattle, Washington.
