ALERT Team Members Needed

What does ALERT stand for? ALERT is an acronym that stands for:
  At
Low blood levels
Emergency donors
Requested
Today
If you are interested in becoming a part of the ALERT team, please call your BBH field representative or the Donor Services Department at
848-4756.

When blood centers across the nation reported having low blood supplies this summer, the Blood Bank of Hawaii Donor Services Department turned to the ALERT team—calling and emailing Lifesaver Club coordinators and companies with an urgent request to help recruit blood donors outside of regularly scheduled blood drives.

More individuals are needed to be a part of this emergency resource for Hawaii’s patients when the blood supply is low. When the Blood Bank calls with an ALERT team message, members should know the following:

Blood is Needed Today
ALERT messages are sent when the blood supply is experiencing a critical shortage, stemming from high usage by either accident and trauma patients or those undergoing major surgeries.

Spreading the Word Helps
Use your resources as a blood drive coordinator to contact individuals who donated at past blood drives. Let them know that if it has been at least eight weeks since their last donation, their help is needed now to keep Hawaii’s blood supply at safe levels.

Sending One or Two Donors Makes a Difference
In an ALERT situation, even one or two individuals who give at the Dillingham or Downtown Donor Centers will be of tremendous help to the blood supply.
