GEICO Shares Tips on Making Donor Experience Enjoyable

GEICO Blood Drive Coordinator Rachel Halverson and her committee use creative strategies to make the blood donation process appealing to employees.

A Runner Saves Time
After completing the initial registration process and questionnaires, employees are free to return to their desks, minimizing time away from work. A designated volunteer or “runner” notifies employees when a nurse is ready to begin the donation process.

Food Never Fails
Invitations to a special lunch for blood donors are distributed to all employees, encouraging them to schedule a donation appointment. During the blood drive, the aroma of chocolate fondue drifts through the GEICO office. Employees who follow their noses learn that the treats are being served as part of the exclusive lunch.

Donors Dress Down
In addition to getting credit towards their community service goals, donors get a “casual day,” allowing them to wear jeans on any day of their choice.
