BBH Thanks Lifesaver Clubs for 25 Years of Support

The Blood Bank of Hawaii thanks the strong corps of companies and organizations that have supported Hawaii’s community blood program during the Lifesaver Clubs’ 25 year history. What started in 1978 as a handful of business leaders working to help meet the blood needs of Hawaii’s patients, has evolved into a network of Lifesaver Clubs that host on-site blood drives, provide facilities or send groups of donors to give the gift of life regularly to give at BBH donor centers.

“We treasure our special relationship with businesses who do so much to help save lives,” said Donor Services Director Wendy Abe. “Last year, they collected more than 32,000 pints of blood. Their outreach has helped as many as 96,000 people.”

Alexander & Baldwin Inc., American Airlines, Edward Enterprises, First Insurance Company, Hawaiian Telephone Company, R.M. Towill, the State Department of Transportation Straub Clinic & Hospital and Times Super Market were among the first BBH Lifesaver Clubs. Today’s members include large and small businesses, churches, service organizations and schools, as well as federal, state, city and county governments.

Everyone benefits from the 25-year commitment of Hawaii’s Lifesaver Clubs.

  • The community can rely on a rapid response network of healthy donors in times of disaster or emergency.
  • Organizations demonstrate their concern for community well-being and provide a lifesaving experience that employees might not have time for otherwise.
  • Their support helps make lifesaving treatments possible for accident victims, patients with life threatening diseases, mothers and babies during childbirth, and those who undergo surgeries and transplants.
