Mydrive

Students from around the state came together to learn about saving lives at the Blood Bank of Hawaii's High School Blood Drive Coordinator Workshop held at the Japanese Cultural Center on September 14th.

High school students enjoy their educational excursion.

The theme of the event was MyDrive, modeled after the popular online social networking site MySpace, where friends come together to share their thoughts and photos. At the event, the young coordinators participated in three different learning sessions dealing with blood biology, blood drive logistics, and the blood donation process. They also heard testimonials from blood recipients whose experiences conveyed the importance of blood donation as well as appreciation for the student's efforts to help ensure that a safe and adequate blood supply is available to help those in need.

More than 3,000 pints of blood were collected at High School blood drives last year. In addition to benefiting Hawaii's patients, the drives help establish a solid foundation from which students can develop a commitment to community service and involvement. They also aid in building school pride and community ties.
