A New Way to Get Your Donors Signed Up

Next month, blood donors will be asked to commit to donating again in eight weeks by filling out an appointment reminder postcard, presented during the donation process.

The card, printed below, is much like what donors may already receive at their doctor or dentist's office; however, in addition to reminding them of their next donation, it will also be used by the Blood Bank to officially book their appointments.

“Scheduling appointments right away provides us with a more accurate assessment of how many other donors are needed to meet the needs of Hawaii's patients on the day of your blood drive," explained BBH Director of Donor Services Aaron Knapp. “It is extremely helpful in our efforts to recruit enough donors to meet the expected usage of Hawaii's hospitals. The new system should also help our Lifesaver Club members. Since appointments are already scheduled for regular donors, coordinators can focus on encouraging more first-time donors to give the gift of life.”

The appointment reminder cards will be mailed to donors two weeks prior to the appointment date. Filling out the card is at the donor's discretion. Those who do will still get a reminder call one week and again one day prior to their appointment date, but the calls and messages from us trying to schedule an appointment will be eliminated.
