Primary Purpose:
Under the general direction of the department manager or designee, the trainer is responsible for assisting in developing and maintaining a comprehensive staff training program for Hospital Services and all aspects of the distribution of blood and blood components. Trains Technician I and II skill levels. Participates in developing, reviewing, and revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Performs all duties of Hospital Services Technician I and II when not training staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Assists patient services management in the development, implementation, maintenance and presentation of a comprehensive department-wide training program to include:
• Develop and deliver innovative and effective training programs, materials, assessments, policies, surveys and other evaluation tools that build competencies and encourage an environment of continuous learning.
• Work collaboratively to design, develop, implement, evaluate, and assess department-wide performance solutions in support of departmental and organizational training systems.
• Analyze performance to identify gaps, training needs, training issues, and design focused training plans to address needs and issues identified.
• Maintain thorough and accurate training records in hardcopy and/or electronic form, as specified by SOP. Assure training records are securely stored.
• Ensure initial and ongoing training and annual competency is documented and documentation is readily available for review.
• Perform audits of training records, as requested.
• Provide presentations and reports related to the training program, as requested.
• Take guidance from and align training requirements with the training management team.
2. Maintain a proficient level of competency in the distribution of blood and blood components.
3. Develop, implement, and facilitate competency assessment for patient services functions.
• Ensures that training meets regulatory compliance and BBH SOPs.
• Oversees the training of the employee progression, ensuring that the employee is competent in each phase of training.
• Conducts competency testing determining pass/fail
4. Coordinates individual performance statistics, discusses trends with patient services management team and implements timely re-training with necessary individuals when indicated.
5. Work effectively with vendors and manufacturers as necessary for optimal training subject matter and resources.
6. Work with quality and patient services staff to ensure quality processes and cGMPs are in place and are meeting BBH and regulatory standards.
7. Assist departmental management and leadership with deviation management investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action.
8. Serves as subject matter expert and assists with the development, review, and validations of SOPs, supplies, and equipment; ensuring changes are completed within the established change control process and coordinates ongoing staff training to ensure changes are implemented and documented within the established time frame.
9. Coordinates and implements new hire orientation for new employees with general information about the section, the role of the employee in the section and the section’s role in the organization.
10. Participates in special projects to implement new initiatives, improve processes, or enhance operations.
11. Participate in department meetings, training activities, continuing education programs, and other associated activities.
12. Incorporates customer service in all training and serves as a resource and positive role model by demonstrating the behavior expected of staff. Set the right example by acting in a manner that exemplifies BBH’s values and inspires others to excellence.
13. Performs other tasks and duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
Experience:
• 1-2 year’s blood bank or distribution/manufacturing operational experience preferred.
• Previous training experience preferred.
• Understanding of training methodologies and previous experience with quality assurance activities preferred.
• Knowledge and familiarity with FDA requirements desirable
Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent

• Knowledge and demonstrated ability to design, develop, present, implement, conduct and evaluate training.
• Ability to develop and conduct training needs assessments and surveys.
• Good listening skills with the ability to receive and comprehend detailed oral or written information.
• Good assessment, judgment, and problem-solving skills with the ability to recognize areas of concern, clarify information that is needed, and come up with possible solutions.
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work with and train diverse individuals and provide excellent customer service.
• Understanding of quality control (QC) and good manufacturing practices.
• Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work based on business needs, and maintain composure and professionalism when working under time constraints.
• Excellent training techniques, curriculum, or program development.
• Effective use of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, and email software.
