Primary Purpose:

The Human Resources Generalist supports Blood Bank of Hawaii employees and management by providing comprehensive services in payroll, benefits administration, employee onboarding, compliance, recruitment, and safety coordination. This role ensures the timely and accurate execution of HR processes and contributes to a positive and compliant workplace culture.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

1. Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, salary updates, direct deposits, and garnishments
  • Issue manual checks for terminations and advances
  • Maintain payroll database; distribute W-2s and complete payroll surveys

2. Employment & Benefits

  • Facilitate new hire onboarding, including benefit and policy orientation
  • Enroll and manage benefits (medical, dental, life, disability, 403(b), etc.)
  • Oversee open enrollment periods and COBRA administration
  • Monitor FMLA/HFLL and TDI eligibility, filing, and compliance
  • Maintain employee files, attendance records, and vacation accruals

3. Recruitment Support

  • Post job openings and screen applicants
  • Conduct initial interviews and coordinate with hiring managers
  • Manage background checks, drug screens, and new hire documentation

4. Safety & Compliance

  • Handle employee incident reports and OSHA documentation
  • Manage healthcare exposure tracking and Hepatitis B vaccinations
  • Oversee safety orientation and emergency preparedness materials

5. Additional Duties

  • Maintain internal directories and DOT license tracking
  • Assist with employee events and HR projects as needed

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma required
  • College degree in Human Resources or related field preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years of HR experience preferred

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Job Type: Full-Time

Pay: Salary exempt $55,000-$60,000/year. Sign-on bonus.
