Position Overview

As a Phlebotomist/Collections Specialists 1, you will be involved in various aspects of blood drives, including setting up equipment and drawing blood from donors at schools, offices, and churches across Oahu and the neighboring islands.

Every weekend
Weekends as needed

Hours may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Flexibility is a must.

Job Duties and Responsibilities Summary:

Donor Eligibility & Assessment: Verify donor identification and critical information for safety. Conduct donor interviews, record data, check vital signs, and perform hemoglobin tests. Assess donor eligibility based on interview, test, and vital sign results.
Phlebotomy: Confirm donor information, draw blood, and collect samples following SOP. Ensure accurate labeling and documentation of blood bags and samples.
Donor Care & Customer Service: Guide donors through the donation process, provide post-donation instructions, and answer questions. Show appreciation to donors and encourage future donations. Monitor donor’s post-donation for any adverse reactions and handle incidents appropriately.
Site Operations: Assist in setting up and breaking down mobile drives or opening/closing at fixed sites. Maintain cleanliness, ensure equipment and supplies are stocked.
Quality Control: Perform QC procedures on equipment, reagents, and techniques, ensuring proper documentation.
Ongoing Learning & Development: Stay updated on blood procurement and safety techniques.
Transportation: Drive vehicles to transport staff, supplies, and equipment to mobile donation sites.
Performing other duties, as assigned.

Experience:

Phlebotomy experience: 1 year experience working as a phlebotomist preferred.

No Experience? No Problem!

Paid Training- 10-weeks training, mix of classroom instruction and field practice.

Skills:

Strong communication skills (oral, reading, and writing) for clear instructions and comprehension of written materials.
Excellent listening skills to understand and process detailed information.
Good judgment and problem-solving abilities to identify and address concerns.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills to work with diverse individuals and provide high-quality service.
Excellent phlebotomy skills, with a requirement to maintain a 95% or higher success rate.
High attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong organizational and time management skills, maintaining composure under pressure.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team.
Leadership and mentoring skills (preferred).
Ability to operate vehicles safely for transporting staff, supplies, and equipment.

Flexible with scheduling and able to adjust to varying shifts.
Ability to travel to neighboring islands and stay for up to 4 nights.
